Repost @themightysite – Sending you into the weekend with this gentle reminder from @kellyabdavis — because you deserve support, no matter what.
“You don’t have to be in the worst possible position you could be to ask for help!!! Whether it’s noticing a change in your mood or some type of trauma or an issue with a substance or challenges with food or body image, there is no point that you need to wait until to be ‘deserving’ of help, whether help is looking for a support group or talking to a friend or finding a therapist or whatever you think would help you. It’s so easy to downplay our own struggles and compare them with others.
Lots of times the people around us give us feedback that it ‘could be worse’ or that we should ‘deal with it’ ourselves. I have and still sometimes do this to myself. I think it can be easier to do it if you already identify as being in recovery because you can just compare where you are now to your worst time period.
The best time to ask for help and support is when you feel like help and support might be good! And if someone around you asks for help try not to qualify it by saying they don’t seem like they have ‘enough’ of the problem to try to work on it or through it. (This does not include the multitude of challenges that come with the mental health system and services. Those are a whole different rant.)”
