Social anxiety can look like disinterest, aloofness, being held at arm’s length, last-minute cancelled plans and even, rudeness. If we seem distracted, it might be because we’re trying to delve through our coping mechanisms, to find something to tamper the rising anxiety. When social situations make us anxious, we’ve often fought a mammoth battle to even get there. Afterwards, we’re treated to a constant replaying loop of our self-perceived awkwardness and of the things we’d rather not have said. It’s anything but easy.
