This can be one of the alarming, confusing and frustrating symptoms of anxiety and stress. I always say it’s best to check it out with your GP to confirm this and reassure yourself. Knowing that it’s normal and that you will still be able to breathe can help. It also helps to practice mindfulness and relaxation and to use distraction techniques to shift your focus away from the symptom.
Focusing on the yucky feeling can make it worse, and make you hypersensitive to it. So try just gently noticing it and then shifting your attention to something else.
Exercise, drinking water, deep breathing and sucking on a lollie can help.
