In my last post, I mentioned one of my goals being “watch self-talk.” That includes negative thinking and the distorted thinking traps I get caught in–especially all or nothing, personalization, overgeneralization, and mind-reading. One of the ways to combat these thoughts and is by challenging thoughts. These are some examples of questions I use, and there are so many more in #CBT online resources. It’s important to remember that challenging your thoughts don’t make them go away or magically make you believe positive ones. When challenging the thought, it’s introducing other ways of thinking that overtime will help to change your thinking, or your respond to that thinking. I still have these negative thoughts, and I challenge them, but that doesn’t make the negative thoughts go away or make me stop feeling the way I do. What it does do is help me gain more awareness be kinder to myself, which in turn makes the emotions more manageable. ✍🏼What are some things you use to challenge your negative thoughts? .
